Cell Phone Etiquette
Cell phone etiquette seems like such a simple thing. But for some reason, it seems rarely to be practiced.
I think this has something to do with concentration. I find that when I am on a
cell call, my concentration is focused on my conversation. I tune out my
surroundings. It's almost like I build my own little phone booth, in my head,
around myself.
I also speak loudly, that little mic on the phone isn't directly in front of my mouth like on a regular phone. Intellectually I know that mic is very sensitive and I don't need to shout, but
still....
The combination of my mental phone booth, and the mic being halfway up my
cheek, results in inconsideration to others. They don't want to be forced to
eavesdrop on my half of a conversation.
I make my cell phone etiquette rules simple. Be aware I don't need to shout,
force myself to be aware of my surroundings, and for heaven's sake, turn it off
(or at least put it in vibrator mode) in theaters, libraries and the like.
